Futebol Clube do Porto is a Portuguese sports club based in Porto, which is best known for its professional football team currently playing in the top-tier Primeira Liga. They played their first match a few days after their foundation in 1893, but only began taking part in local and regional competitions in 1911, when the José Monteiro da Costa Cup was contested for the first time. Since then, the club has participated and achieved success in several domestic and international competitions, with the contribution of numerous players. This list includes the players that have made at least 100 competitive match appearances for the first team, either as starters or as substitutes. João Pinto holds Porto's record for most appearances, having played in 587 matches during his 16-year career at the club (1981–1997). He is one of only two players to have over 500 appearances for Porto; the other is former goalkeeper Vitor Baía, who appeared in 566 matches in 17 seasons. Four other players have made at least 400 appearances. Among them is former Brazilian defender Aloísio, who holds the club record for most appearances by a non-Portuguese player. Fernando Gomes is Porto's record goalscorer, having netted 347 goals in 455 appearances. The only other player with over 300 goals is Pinga; he scored 314 times during his 15 years at the club.
